What does true freedom look like?
When we think of the term freedom, we often go to the idea of a country or an organization having freedom from some oppressive entity. Freedom also has a personal dimension that is very important. We all have inner struggles that hold us down and become debilitating at times. We all need the power of God in Christ Jesus, to help us with those inner struggles. There is a battle of the mind that occurs. We have thoughts at times that are not holy. We all have temptations that try to entice us from doing the will of God. In Romans 8:1 it says, ” Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus, the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.” First of all, in Christ, we are not condemned. When we submit to Christ, he forgives us of our sins and takes us into a close relationship with him. We are not shunned, but we are accepted. Then in Christ Jesus, he gives us the power to get free from those inner struggles that try to control our minds. Each day we must ask Jesus to fill us with his Holy Spirit and we have the power to say “no”, to the temptations of the enemy of our souls, and to be free to do the right thing. Praise God for freedom in Christ.
