Words of Life:
 Gift Giving
Christmas is a wonderful time of year. It’s a time to spend with family and show love to each other.  We generally give gifts to each other during this time of year.  I think on the one hand, to give gifts to each other when it’s someone else’s birthday is rather strange; but on the other hand, it’s fun and exciting to give and receive gifts.  Christmas is the day we celebrate the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ, and yet, we are giving gifts to each other.  Why not give Jesus the gift?  Well, I have two responses to this issue.  First of all, we should give a gift to another person during this season because God gave the gift of his Son to the whole world.  When we give gifts, we are following the example of God.  He gave his Son to the whole world by sending Him to die on the cross for the sins of humanity.  Jesus also said when you do something good to another person, it is like you are doing it to Him.  We can give Jesus a gift during this season by doing what He commanded us to do.  Jesus established two main priorities for us on earth: love God and love our neighbors.  When we give a gift in love, we are following the commands of Jesus and therefore loving our neighbor.
God bless you and give gifts in God-honoring ways this season,
Pastor David Greenidge
